Kai Havertz might have been the hero of the hour for Arsenal last night but not everything he did was impressive to the onlooking pundits.
Havertz rose to nod home a dramatic winner for the Gunners in the final few minutes as they picked up a massive win over the Bees. The German continued his fine form, getting on the end of a Ben White cross to win it.
However, not everything Havertz did was so good. He missed a golden chance in the first half which was slammed. And then, after trying to dive to win a penalty, Chris Sutton also mocked him.
And that dive was a talking point for another pundit, Shaka Hislop, who suggested that Havertz just makes life hard for himself.
Kai Havertz slammed for diving
Speaking about the German for ESPN FC, former West Ham stopper Hislop was not impressed by Havertz.
“Havertz, with the ridiculous dive that easily could have seen him sent off. I made this point that while Havertz is certainly having a bit of a renaissance in this Arsenal team and there’s praise for Arteta for showing faith in him, at times though he just shoots himself in the foot. He very easily could be sent off and we’d be having a completely different chat about Havertz this evening. Despite the bad decision from him Arteta stuck with him and in the end, his height, his physicality, made a difference,” Hislop said.
Arsenal need better at times from big players
While he got the winning goal, Hislop is spot on here about Havertz. On another day, he could have been sent off and that would have been a big problem for Arsenal.
As it is, they got the win and the German got his big moment.
But at the end of the day, Arsenal need more from their £65m signing and while he’s picked up recently, he has to keep making the right decisions and helping the team.
That dive today was the wrong decision and could have been costly. Arsenal, then, need to ensure there’s less of this rubbish and more of the football from Havertz.
