Frank Busemann believes that up and coming Leo Neugebauer can achieve great things at the Paris Olympics in summer after he claimed the German indoor heptathlon record.

Busemann lost the record after two decades to Neugebauer, who accumulated 6,347 points at the NCAA championships in Boston.

"That bodes well for Paris," Busemann told dpa on Sunday.

It was Neugebauer's second national record, after he had last year bettered the long standing outdoor decathlon record from Jürgen Hingsen. He then came fifth at the world championships, leading after the first day but then struggling on day two.

"It is fantastic that I now also have the indoor record. I know I could reach it after my previous competition," Neugebauer said after Saturday's record.

"Now I am excited and looking forward to the outdoor season," he added.

Neugebauer will not compete at the European championships in June and fully concentrate on the Olympics where he will be among the German medal hopes in athletics.
