'What a player you are': Lucas Leiva blown away by £16m Liverpool player after watching him v Man City

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a brilliant 1-1 draw yesterday at Anfield as two of the top teams in England went head to head.

In the end, a 1-1 draw was probably fair and Arsenal were the big winners, with the Gunners landing top spot after sneaking past Brentford in the last few minutes.

For Liverpool, it was a performance for the ages really as they pushed City back for much of the second half despite having a number of injury problems in the squad. Some of their players really stepped up to the cause, including their three midfield players on the day.

In particular, sitting midfielder Wataru Endo put in yet another brilliant performance in midfield. The £16m signing has been outstanding in recent months and a former Reds midfielder, Lucas Leiva, has lauded the Japanese star.

Taking to X on social media, Leiva sent a message to Endo, singing his praises.

Wataru Endo is becoming a real star at Liverpool

When you look at the fact this was just a £16m signing and the impact Endo has had, it’s quite remarkable they managed to get this deal done.

In such a cauldron like yesterday, it can be hard to get into the game but Endo did a superb job of marshalling the midfield and keeping the top City players quiet.

As Lucas says here, Endo is a player who keeps the team going and connects things in midfield, a role that is often overlooked.

At the end of the day, if Pep Guardiola is taking off Kevin de Bruyne, then someone in the Liverpool midfield is doing his job. Endo was that man yesterday.

If Liverpool end up winning the title, then the signing of Endo will go down as one of the most pivotal signings of the summer window.
