[Fukusaki Town] I went to Takaoka's village ``Hydrangea Path''. Enjoy rare mountain hydrangeas

There are many famous spots for hydrangeas in Kanzaki County, but ``Ajisai no Komichi'' in Takaoka Village, Fukusaki Town, is the best in the county for the variety of mountain hydrangeas.

The ``Hydrangea Path'' has been diligently maintained by the manager since 2002.

Many hydrangeas are colorful and pleasing to the eye here, but it is also worth noting that there are many types of mountain hydrangeas that bloom in front, along with so-called ``hydrangeas'' (temari-blooming hydrangeas). You can enjoy 50 types of mountain hydrangea flowers such as ``Kurenai'', ``Yo Guifei'', ``Iyo Shibori'', ``Besshi Temari'', ``Iyo Sakura'', ``Hitomi'', and ``Kurohime''. (*33 types in 2020)

Takaoka Village “Hydrangea Path”

Head northwest on Prefectural Route 406 to Takaoka, Fukusaki Town.
There is a hydrangea path in front of Ohshoji Temple, which is known as the ``Temple of Flowers'' and is famous for its Sala flowers at this time of year.

Turn left at the sign and you will find a parking space. I thought it would be a bad idea to park the car without permission, but a local man came along with his tractor. When I asked him about it, he generously replied, ``Okay, okay, take your time and look at it.'' (*Easy to understand parking lot display in 2021)

If you keep going, you will see hydrangeas on the mountainside across the river. In addition, there are temari blooms (common hydrangeas) along the river in front of you, and mountain hydrangeas along the road on the other side.

Cross the bridge and go to the "Hydrangea Path". Although it is called a small path, it is quite a distance.
Along the way, there are sightseeing guides for Fukusaki Town and benches where you can take a short break, giving you a sense of hospitality.

Some of the so-called ``Hydrangeas'' (temari-blooming hydrangeas) were still in bloom, but many types of ``Mountain hydrangeas'' (forehead blooms) were at their best. (*2021/06/04)

"Water bowl" hydrangea

Hydrangea is called ``hydrangea'' in English, and its meaning is ``water vessel.''

Hydrangea flowers look great on rainy days. Hydrangeas are quite lively when it rains, but because their leaves are large and numerous, there is a lot of transpiration, which releases water from the leaves, and they lose their energy when the weather continues to be sunny.

There's a reason why they're so lively on rainy days.We recommend viewing hydrangeas on a light rainy day or after the rain!

Mountain hydrangea (blooming)

Unlike common hydrangeas, the leaves are small, and many of them bloom in sepals with decorative flowers along the edges. Although it is a small flower, the word "pretty" suits it.

This is a hybrid species of "common hydrangea" and "mountain hydrangea." Like mountain hydrangeas, it seems to bloom from around the end of May.

I was a little impressed as I had never seen so many mountain hydrangeas at once.
Please give it a try if you're in the area.

Hydrangea (temari blooming hydrangea)

From around mid-June, hydrangeas bloom along the path.
