Nicolas Cage is a 'true king' for reminding us he'd 'do anything in a movie'

Nicolas Cage is like no other actor, it feels like he’s been in every movie, or almost, and he had the Oscars audience laughing as he praised Paul Giamatti’s performance in The Holdovers last night.

The man with many talents and a lot more movie credits, ladies and gentleman, it was none other than Nicolas Cage who was asked to attend the Oscars this weekend to announce the nominees of Best Actor. The celebrity was up against Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) and Colman Domingo (Rustin). Paul lost the award show statue to Murphy, but fans did appreciate Nicolas Cage managing to pay tribute to him with his Oscars speech.

Joining Matthew McConaughey, Brendan Fraser, Ben Kingsley and Forrest Whitaker, Nicolas Cage was tasked with introducing one of the nominees for the Best Actor category at the Oscars.

Jimmy Kimmel introduced the five male actors as the ‘original members of NSYNC before they arrived on stage.

First Fraser spoke on “funny and furious” Jeffrey Wright, before Cage spoke.

Cage’s turn comes, and he explains the extreme lengths the movie star went to for his role in The Holdovers, by wearing a lens in one eye.

The star says: “This past year Paul Giamatti was so committed, that for the character to have a lazy eye he wore a soft contact lens during the entire shoot, which made him blind in that eye while filming.

“Would I have done that? Hell yes, but the point is you did do it Paul. You were brilliant. Bravo!”

The crowd then erupts with laughter, before applauding and cheering.

After Matthew talked about ‘modern renaissance’ man Bradley Cooper, praising him for writing, directing, producing and acting in the Hollywood flick. Kingsley’s turn focused on Cillian Murphy, explaining how he accepted the film before even reading the script. Lastly, Whitaker took up the chance, to introduce Colman where he admired how he “lights up the screen”.

Cage poses with his wife on the Red Carpet

Before Nicolas Cage’s hilarious speech, the 60-year-old posed with his wife, 28, on the Oscars Red Carpet.

He brought his wife, Riko Shibata, with him to the before party in Los Angeles before the Academy Awards.

They had a busy weekend, because on March 9, the celebrity couple attended the Motion Picture and Television Fund’s 22nd Annual Night Before, to celebrate what was to come.

Cage wore a classic black tuxedo and Shibata wore a black and grey structured fashion moment. They held hands as they posed for the cameras at the awards show.

They were seen chatting with Brendan Fraser and Colin Farrell, rubbing shoulders with other stars. It comes as they haven’t been seen on a Red Carpet together since last March, for his film Renfield’s premiere.
