TV star's 20-year marriage 'fell apart' after double family tragedy

Fern Britton, 66, is a familiar face to UK TV viewers after she spent around 10 years working on daytime TV show This Morning. The presenter is spending time in the Celebrity Big Brother house this March. She says her three cats are the only ‘people’ who know “all her secrets” as fans get curious about her husband.

Since Fern entered the Celebrity Big Brother house, she’s been labeled a “hun” and a “mother” by fans on X (Twitter). Despite seemingly being adored by viewers at home, her fellow housemate, Louis Walsh, opted for some savage analysis of the star: “Fern is just there, she’s like wallpaper.”

Fern Britton’s husband

Fern and Phil Vickery were married for 20 years before their split in 2020.

The couple’s break-up came as a surprise to many, but speaking on Good Morning Britain in the same year, she explained how “…it was a long time coming,” writes The Mirror.

She said the two “grew apart” in the final years of their marriage. Fern explained how the family experienced a double tragedy: “My mum died and my father died and unfortunately Phil and I fell apart.”

Following their split, the two are “still friends” per an interview with Woman & Home magazine.

CBB star lost both parents

Fern is a mom of four. She welcomed three children, Harry, Jack, and Grace, with her first husband Clive Jones, and later had a daughter named Winnie with Phil.

She sadly lost both of her parents within a short space of one another.

Fern reflected on how it was growing up with her mother, Ruth, in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, during Channel 5 series There’s No Place Like Home, writes The Express.

She described her mum as being a “mother and father” to her during her childhood.

Her mother passed in April 2018 and her dad, Tony Britton, died in December 2019.
