What Cole Palmer has now already done for Chelsea that Kai Havertz never managed in three years

Cole Palmer was at his brilliant best again last night as Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League last night against Newcastle United.

A goal and an assist eitherside of half-time for the 21-year-old were instrumental in the Blues’ 3-2 victory, with him getting a standing ovation when he was replaced with moments to go.

Palmer was the last player to join the club at the end of an extremely busy summer transfer window, however many would say he has been the best addition made since the new ownership came in.

The way he broke down his goal after the game suggested that his football IQ is seriously impressive too. He mentioned that he had picked up the position of the goalkeeper before striking from distance to restore their lead at the time.

With England manager Gareth Southgate in attendance, he will certainly have noted that the player available for selection was certainly the man of the moment.

What Palmer has done that Havertz couldn’t for Chelsea

Chelsea fans will be even happier when thinking back to the failures of their attack last season, particularly some of the players who were moved on.

One of those is Kai Havertz, who is showing signs of improvement at last over at Arsenal in their race for the title.

However, Blues supporters will not need reminding of just how underwhelming he was for them. In the Premier League, he registered just seven assists in three seasons.

According to Squawka, Palmer has already overtaken that tally in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

In a season where injuries have seriously affected a number of their players, not least star attacking signing Christopher Nkunku, Palmer has frequently been the man Mauricio Pochettino has turned to in times of need.

Given the fact that it is his first campaign as a real first team star, the future is certainly bright for the 21-year-old.
