Tim Sherwood tells £45m Chelsea player to his face that Mauricio Pochettino should build the team around him

Pundit Tim Sherwood has now told one Chelsea player to his face that the current side should be built around him.

During punditry for Stadium Astro, he told Cole Palmer that Mauricio Pochettino should be completely building his squad around the 21-year-old after watching him play last night.

Palmer was exceptional for Chelsea yet again last night, with the Blues picking up a 3-2 win over Newcastle United.

Anassist and a goal for the England international either side of half time helped them over the line, with the national team manager Gareth Southgate in attendance watching closely.

The player sits as their top scorer and assister in the Premier League this season, which is a superb achievement considering it is his first season at the club following his £45m deadline day move.

Sherwood tells Palmer Chelsea should be built around him

Now, Sherwood has directly told him while interviewing him that the side should be built around him.

He said: “All you need is some players to play with. I know you can’t say that but I’m saying it. I just think you need more quality. For me, I think he [Mauricio Pochettino] needs to build the team around you.

“The quality that you have, but that’ll come with a few transfer windows hopefully once he gets the right players in.”

Palmer was quick to palm off any praise that could be seen as criticism to some of his teammates, with last night showing there was a number of players with true quality around him.

Moises Caicedo put in another bustling performance in midfield, where as Mykhailo Mudryk made it his mission to impress manager Pochettino by coming on and scoring the winning goal.

The England international is certainly one of the first names on the teamsheet right now though, and supporters will hope he is at his best on Sunday when they look to book another trip to Wembley via the FA Cup.
