'Brilliant': David Seaman seriously impressed by 'top drawer' Everton player vs Man United

Everton were spirited on the road last weekend, but once again failed to find that killer instinct to turn their chances into goals.

Manchester United were the beneficiaries, and two penalties proved to be the difference, leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance in a 2-0 loss.

But David Seaman was still left stunned by what the 30-year-old managed, making six saves at Old Trafford, one of which particularly caught his eye.

What David Seaman said about Jordan Pickford

Speaking on his podcast, Seaman Says, the legendary English goalkeeper moved onto his weekly segment in which he outlines his Save of the Week.

However, this time around, he was torn.

Stuck between two of his compatriots, he even asked his fellow pundits to pick for him as he simply could not distinguish between the brilliance of Jordan Pickford to deny Bruno Fernandes’ free kick, or the athleticism of Aaron Ramsdale to tip Ivan Toney’s long-range half volley around the post.

Later opting for the latter due to their friendly ties, he still took time to laud the former Sunderland man.

He claimed: ‘I’m struggling because there was some good saves all around. But there was two that were top drawer.

‘The two I’m thinking of, and I might even have to pass it on to you, so the two I’m thinking of is the save from Ivan Toney or Jordan Pickford’s save from Fernandes.

‘Because the top hand of Jordan was brilliant, because he almost went to go with his bottom hand and then he changed flight, and it was a really good save.

‘Aaron’s save was fantastic as well because of the quick feet you’ve got to get back because he was starting in a high position, and after what he’d gone through as well.’

Everton’s defence has been lacking in recent weeks

Having previously prided themselves on an unrelenting solidity even in the face of attacking profligacy, it is unfortunate to see that sole shining light has faded away in recent weeks.

Although they still boast the fourth-best defence in the Premier League, with only David Raya boasting more clean sheets than Pickford, it is hard to argue against the recent downturn in their defensive prowess.

After all, in what few games they have won this season, it has usually been by a slender margin and without the opposition having scored.

If they ever are to win, it comes through frustrating their opponents and snagging an eventual winner, with Newcastle United, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Crystal Palace all having failed to score in losses to the Toffees over the past few months.

However, their last clean sheet came back in January, having actually shipped 11 goals in their last six games, whereas the six before they had conceded just five.

Clearly unable to rely on their attack, if their defence is not faultless then they stand little chance of winning. So, it is no surprise that their recent lapse in concentration has resulted in this winless run being extended.
