Pedestrian critically hurt after being hit by SUV while crossing Route 9

A 27-year-old pedestrian crossing Route 9 in Howell on Monday morning was struck by an SUV and critically injured, authorities said.

The man was hit by a northbound vehicle in the right line as he attempted to cross the highway from west to east at about 5:20 a.m. in the area of Strickland Road, the Monmouth Prosecutor’s Office said.

He was hospitalized with multiple life-threatening injuries. The 41-year-old man driving the SUV stopped.

“The pedestrian was almost fully across Route 9 when struck,” the prosecutor’s office noted.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call prosecutor’s office Detective Brian Boryszewski at 800-533-7443 or Howell police Officer Kyle Bush at 732-938-4575, ext. 2667.
