Richarlison suggests Chelsea have a 23-year-old player who is even better than Mason Mount

Chelsea’s midfield has been the topic of many conversations this season.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo cost a combined £220m, and, to be honest, they haven’t looked worth it for most of this campaign.

However, that isn’t to say that they are poor players. After all, Caicedo was fantastic at Brighton, while Fernandez is a World Cup winner in his own right.

Fernandez does have a number of fans, and one of those appears to be Richarlison.

Indeed, taking part in a challenge on his TikTok page, Richarlison has had a go at ranking some of the biggest names in football, and he gave Fernandez a very generous ranking.

Richarlison put Fernandez fourth in his top ten ahead of the likes of Alessandro Nesta and Carlos Tevez, and perhaps most interestingly, Mason Mount.

Of course, Mount and Fernandez were teammates at Chelsea for a short period towards the end of last season, but after a number of key sales at Chelsea this summer, Mount is now at Manchester United.

Mount and Fernandez are two players that are regularly compared due to their affiliation with Chelsea and how the Blues’ midfield has operated over the past 12 months.

Both players have their backers and their detractors, but it would appear that Richarlison thinks the Argentine is the superior player.

This season, Fernandez has certainly outperformed Mount, but, in the same breath, Mount has been injured for most of this season, so it’s hard to really blame the England international for his lack of form.

Whether or not you prefer Mount of Fernandez is up for debate, but Richarlison clearly rates the current Chelsea star higher than the former Chelsea ace, and having played at the top level for such a long time, it’s fair to say that the Brazilian knows what he’s talking about when it comes to identifying these top players.
