Report: Newcastle have decided whether Eddie Howe will still be at the club next season

Newcastle United have now decided whether or not they will be keeping Eddie Howe on as manager fo the new season.

The Geordies suffered another disappointing defeat against Chelsea last night and now sit mid table in the Premier League with pressure increasing on Howe after last season’s success.

However, a new report from The Telegraph claims that Howe will be head coach of Newcastle at the beginning of next season regardless of if the club qualify for Europe or not.

Howe still has the backing of Newcastle’s board

Qualifying for the Champions League last year was an incredible achievement for everyone involved, but it’s almost been a hinderance this year with all of the added fixtures and expectation that it has brought.

Those within Newcastle understand that realistically there was no expectation for Howe to match last year’s success and a more realistic target would have been anywhere between fifth and seventh.

However, their current form has seen them drift towards mid table and questions have been raised by both the media and fans about how much longer Howe will be at the club if things don’t improve.

This new report suggests that the owners are understanding about the situation Howe finds himself in with regards to all the injuries and are willing to give him the summer to transform the team and get all of his players back.

Howe needs to have a bright start

There is some comfort in knowing that the owners are willing to give time and are not acting in a rash manner like so many Premier League clubs who change manager’s every six months.

Having said that, it does put a lot of pressure on Howe and Newcastle to really get off to a good start to the new campaign and show the kind of form they were in last season when everything seemed to go their way.

Newcastle will also be hoping they can avoid the same amount of freak injuries which they have suffered this season as it has really limited what Howe can do on the pitch given he’s been missing half a team for the majority of the season.

There have already been some calls for the likes of Jose Mourinho to be brought in if they want to be successful, but the 46-year-old certainly deserves a chance to win something with a team that he has helped to build.
