VfB Stuttgart defender Anthony Rouault underwent surgery on a broken jaw on Tuesday and will be out of action "for four to six weeks", the Bundesliga club said.

Rouault suffered the injury in the first half of their 2-0 league win against Union Berlin on Friday and was substituted. He had been playing with a face mask from a recent nose fracture.

The 22-year-old Frenchman came to Stuttgart on loan from Toulouse in summer but his contract is now permanent and until 2027.

Rouault has featured in 20 games in all competitions for Stuttgart who are playing a strong season to rank third in the Bundesliga.
