Netflix adds under-appreciated Samuel L. Jackson thriller from 2010 that many fans haven't seen

You know those actors you see in movies so often but they always make it better? If this can be said of anybody at all, it’s Samuel L. Jackson. The 75-year-old is iconic as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and earlier classics like Pulp Fiction and Unbreakable have helped make him one of the most commanding screen presences of his generation. Always incredibly busy, he has a whopping 207 acting credits, so more than a few movies were inevitably going to slip audiences by, including Unthinkable…

Unthinkable movie with Samuel L. Jackson on Netflix

The 2010 American thriller movie Unthinkable is now streaming on Netflix, its popularity pushing it up to rank #5 in the platform’s ‘Top 10 movies’ category.

Directed by Gregor Jordan (Buffalo Soldiers, Ned Kelly), the film stars Carrie-Anne Moss, best known as Trinity in The Matrix franchise, in the role of Special Agent Helen Brody.

She’s the leader of an FBI counter-terrorism team in Los Angeles who has been assigned to interrogate Yusuf (Michael Sheen), an American Muslim and former Delta Force operator who has hatched a terrorist plot to detonate nuclear bombs across the US.

Helen brings in Henry Harold Humphries (Samuel L. Jackson), a black-ops officer who begins interrogating Yusuf to extract information and locate the bombs before they go off.

It’s a tightly wound, breathlessly paced film that packs so much punch in its brisk 97-minute runtime. Like many others, it passed me by when it was initially released, with Netflix responsible for me even learning of its existence. As it turns out, the film wasn’t released in theaters and was direct-to-video.

For those who check it out, it’s also worth mentioning that there’s an extended ending that isn’t on Netflix which completely changes how you’ll view the film—”The original ending makes this movie 10x more thought-provoking,” a fan argued on Twitter. You can find it online after checking out Unthinkable on Netflix.
