Oppenheimer is now available to stream from home alongside another Oscar rival

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has successfully been crowned Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards, sparking fresh interest from film fans who want to watch the movie.

As luck would have it, the multiple-Oscar winning movie is available to stream now on Peacock, as is another of Oppenheimer’s rivals for Best Picture.

Oppenheimer and The Holdovers now on Peacock

Unlike a lot of recent movies, which may find their way onto a streaming service a matter of weeks after their theatrical release, the biopic of J Robert Oppenheimer – the creator of the atomic bomb – has taken months to make its way onto Peacock, only being added to the site on February 16.

The Best Picture-winning movie was one of the biggest hits of 2023, earning just shy of $1 billion at the box office. But if you missed it first time around or simply want to watch it again, now is your chance.

Also available on Peacock is The Holdovers, a comedy-drama that feels like it was pulled straight from a 1970s movie theater. While Oppenheimer conquered the box office alongside Barbie in the summer, The Holdovers’ box office takings of $43 million pale in comparison, although the movie is no less worthy of your attention.

It stars Paul Giamatti as a strict teacher who is forced to remain on campus at his New England prep school over the Christmas break to chaperone a group of students with nowhere to go, forming close bonds with the whip-smart but trouble-making Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa) and the school’s head cook Mary Lamb (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).

Oppenheimer and The Holdolvers’ Oscar wins

Oppenheimer reigned supreme at the 2024 Oscars ceremony, sweeping up the most awards of any film with seven.

The movie earned golden statuettes in most of the major categories including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Film Editing for Jennifer Lame, Best Original Score for Ludwig Goransson and Best Cinematography for Hotye van Hoytema.

Meanwhile, despite being nominated in five categories, The Holdovers won just one award on the night, with Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mary Lamb.
