41-year-old manager that left Leeds United in 2023 just smashed Garry Monk in huge 6-0 win

Michael Skubala is shining as a manager. His first permanent, senior role as gaffer at Lincoln City is going as good as he could ever have imagined – and it got a whole lot better on Tuesday night.

The 41-year-old was well-liked at Elland Road. Initially joining the club having worked as England’s futsal coach, Skubala was given the reigns as our Under-21 manager. He impressed, during his time in charge.

Then, following Jesse Marsch‘s sacking in February 2023, Skubala was placed in caretaker charge and was manager for three Premier League games – drawing with rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He remained at Leeds following the appointments of Javi Gracia, Sam Allardyce and Daniel Farke. But, in November 2023, Skubala embarked on his first senior manager role – with League One side Lincoln.

A solid start, two wins in his first four games. But that was followed by a winless run of 10 games in all competitions. Pressure on. But, he has turned it around of late. Lincoln are now 12 games unbeaten.

Michael Skubala wins 6-0 against Garry Monk’s Cambridge

Seven wins and eight clean sheets in that run. A 5-1 away win over Barnsley on Saturday was superb – but even better, on Tuesday night. A 6-0 home win over Garry Monk’s new side Cambridge United.

Monk made his debut on the weekend as Cambridge boss, earning a point at home to Northampton. But, Monk was embarrassed by Skubala on Tuesday night, as Lincoln ran riot to go and win handsomely.

Having previously had no chance, Skubala has pushed Lincoln into ninth place and just three points off the play-offs. Something that would have seemed incredibly unlikely – but, could now be a reality.
