Cantwell is big name return but attacking duo also seen in surprise training footage

Rangers and Philippe Clement have been given a massive boost ahead of two key fixtures before the international break with Todd Cantwell among a group of players seen back in training.

The Gers boss has seen his squad down to the bare bones in recent fixtures in terms of attacking options but the sight of his key playmaker back in business is a welcome one ahead of Benfica’s visit to Ibrox.

If Rangers are to continue their current momentum, Philippe Clement will need Todd Cantwell back to his best, however, the return of two other first-team regulars shouldn’t be down played.

Rangers boost sees Todd Cantwell in training return

Sky Sports have been at Auchenhowie as part of the build-up to tomorrow’s last 16 Europa League clash with the Portugeuse giants, the tie finely balanced at 2-2 after an end-to-end first leg.

The task in hand was re-emphasised last night with Arsenal needing penalties to see off a Porto side sitting below Benfica in the league, albeit the same time that dished out a recent 5-0 win over our opponents.

The video footage of the Rangers players warming up saw Philippe Clement cast his eye over a squad that is currently going above and beyond just now but the welcome return of Todd Cantwell can’t be down played.

For a start, it gives Tom Lawrence a rest in that they can rotate without any drop in quality.

It also gives the gaffer the chance to play his two main playmakers off either wing, as they have done in the past.

Thankfully, that might not be necessary though with both Scott Wright and Ross McCausland also seen in the same training session, although the latter has his calf heavily strapped up.

On paper, they might not be the first names on the team sheet but, with so many other players out, they could be set for crucial roles this week.

It is a surprise to see them both back in training with Wright having missed the last two games and McCausland having to go off injured at Easter Road despite coming on as a sub himself.

In the Estadio da Luz, Rangers ran out of steam purely because of numbers but, with fresh legs available, the high energy style that we have seen from Clement can be maintained.

We are due some good luck on the injury front and having more regulars available is only a good thing.

Having one of our best players back, is even better.
