Michail Antonio risks West Ham fans' wrath yet again with 'sexy football' comments

The West Ham United fans will be utterly baffled when they hear the latest comments from Michail Antonio.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been woefully out of form this season, and has missed a large chunk of the campaign through injury.

It seems like the Jamaica international has spent more time on his podcast than he has actually playing games for the Hammers – something that Gabby Agbonlahor criticised him for earlier this season.

David Moyes definitely wouldn’t have been happy with some of the comments Antonio made about backing West Ham to finish above Liverpool this term.

He just seems to come out with really strange things without meaning to time, after time, after time. And now he’s been at it yet again…

Michail Antonio risks West Ham fans’ wrath yet again

Antonio responded when asked if West Ham should be playing better football than we have been this season, when speaking on BBC Sport’s ‘The Players Channel’:

“You could play the sexiest football out there, but if you lose a game, you’re going to feel like rubbish. And if you keep losing, while you’re playing sexy football, you’re going to forget the sexy football eventually. You go from sexy to the other football side and you’ll be like, ‘why didn’t we do this from the beginning of the season, because we’re winning games’.”

Firstly Michail, we have done neither of those things over the past two months.

West Ham have won just twice since December 28th in all competitions, and the football has been consistently painful to watch.

Secondly, why is there this presumption that sexy football equals bad results? Can we not aspire to have both good football as well as good results? It amazes me how many times footballers, managers and pundits fall into this trap time and time again.

If the likes of Brighton, Aston Villa and Tottenham fans can demand it, then why can’t we? Those comments above from West Ham striker Michail Antonio were really poor and completely misguided if you ask me.
