Thierry Henry says Arsenal have a player in their side who passes like Dennis Bergkamp

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has compared Martin Odegaard to Dennis Bergkamp after watching him in the win over Porto last night.

The Gunners picked up a hard-fought victory and qualified for the quarter-final of the Champions League for the first time in 14 years. David Raya was the hero last night, but Odegaard played a huge part as well.

Thierry Henry compares Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard to Dennis Bergkamp

Martin Odegaard was one of the best players on the pitch last night when Arsenal hosted Porto.

The Norwegian produced a captain’s performance at the Emirates. He was at it from the first minute, picked up a wonderful assist, scored a goal that shouldn’t have been ruled out and converted his penalty in the shootout.

If David Raya hadn’t saved us with his performance in the shootout, we’re convinced Odegaard would’ve won the Player of the Match award.

Speaking about Odegaard’s fantastic assist for Leandro Trossard’s goal, Thierry Henry heaped praise and compared the pass to Dennis Bergkamp‘s.

He said on CBS Sports at half-time last night: “What I like here is what Odegaard did when the ball comes back here.”

When asked if that was ‘Bergkamp-like’, Henry replied: “Yes, very much so.

“The way he shifted the ball back onto his left foot, to find that little pass that went in between the leg of the player, to make sure Trossard was going to finish it and he finished it ever-so well.”

Martin Odegaard could become one of Arsenal’s best-ever captains

When you think of Arsenal’s great captains, the likes of Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira come to mind. They are both absolute legends of the club.

Martin Odegaard is very different to both Vieira and Adams, but the way the Norway international is leading this young Arsenal side from the front is just incredible.

The 24-year-old is always the first one to press. He leads the attack, is available to receive the ball, picks out great passes and scores goals as well.

He has everything you would want in your captain, and if he can lead Arsenal to a few titles in the coming years, we feel he will be up there with the greatest skippers this club has ever seen.
