Jadon Sancho sends message after Champions League goal, Manchester United and City stars respond

Jadon Sancho has become a Borussia Dortmund hero all over again at just the right time.

Manchester United had one hope when Jadon Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan in January, that the wantaway winger would recover his transfer value.

Even though United are destined to take a loss on the £73 million paid for Sancho in 2021, selling him for as high as possible remains the objective.

This has become a little easier after Sancho did what Manchester United did not qualify for the chance to do in 2024, score a goal in the Champions League knockout rounds.

Sancho leads Dortmund to win

Jadon Sancho scored the opening goal as Borussia Dortmund beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 on the night, a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

This was just his second goal since rejoining his former side on loan, with both strikes coming this past week.

While some might point at this and suggest this makes United look silly, Sancho is responsible for his own actions in the first half of the season, and the Red Devils are just picking up the pieces, and trying to work towards an eventual sale.

Nobody wanted to buy Sancho in January, unsure what they were getting. Sancho’s spell at Dortmund is aimed at helping him restore his value, and promote himself in the shop window.

His Bundesliga displayshave not been convincing, but this was the one which really mattered, the Champions League, and Sancho grabbed his chance.

Sancho responds on social media

Jadon Sancho is back to using his social media as a force for good, sending a post on Instagram after the victory, posing with the man of the match award.

Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Sofyan Amrabat all ‘liked’ the post – three players who didn’t actually share a matchday squad with Sancho in any of the opening three games of the season.

One who did, was Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was the first player to issue a response, with a heart emoji.

Wan-Bissaka and Sancho are close, flying to America together, controversially, a week after the winger’s bust-up with Erik ten Hag.

There were also responses from Manchester City’s Jack Grealish and Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey among others, and there may be more congratulations heading Sancho’s way.
