According to German national carrier Lufthansa, representatives of the company and the trade union verdi continued their negotiations on Thursday in the wage dispute with Lufthansa ground staff.

Both sides had blocked the day for further talks, Lufthansa said.

"Both sides are willing to reach an agreement. We are not separated by personal issues, we are separated by money," verdi negotiator Marvin Reschinsky said on Wednesday before the start of the fifth round of negotiations for the approximately 25,000 ground staff.

However, Reschinsky also emphasized: "The company still has to move if it does not want to risk further strikes."

Last week, hundreds of Lufthansa flights were cancelled due to strikes organized by verdi in this area. Verdi is demanding 12.5% more pay for Lufthansa ground staff for a 12-month term, while the company has so far offered 10% for a 28-month term.

After four rounds of negotiations, an inflation compensation bonus of €3,000 ($3,282) is relatively uncontroversial.
