Sources: Arsenal tie down star men to new deals

HITC understands Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have both put pen-to-paper on their new contracts at Arsenal.

HITC revealed last month that Arsenal were confident that White’s new deal was close to being finalised, and now that has gone through.

Likewise, Tomiyasu has also inked his new deal at The Emirates after agreeing his terms earlier this month.

White has committed to an initial four-year deal that also has an option for another 12-months. It is believed Tomiyasu’s deal is similar in length to that of White.

Boost for Arteta

Arsenal are set to confirm the agreements by the weekend, and the news both are done will be a welcome boost to manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta is believed to have signed-off on the pair getting fresh deals earlier in the season.

The Arsenal chief is a confirmed admirer of both players, singling both out for their ‘versatility’.

“Obviously we talk, because when you are thinking about doing something to maximise the resources you have in the squad to play the way we want to play, you have to have certainty that the player is happy to do so, and feels capable to do that,” he previously told the club’s website.

“If not, it is just a waste of time, I have those discussions with Ben, he’s always been very open.

“Tomi has been playing left centre back for his national team Japan. When you look at the games, he can play as a left back too, because you cannot tell me if he’s a left or right-footed player.”

Key performer

26-year-old White arrived at Arsenal from Brighton in 2021 and has become a key performer featuring in over 120 games. He has featured as a central defender but more recently at right-back.

Tomiyasu, like White, signed for The Gunners in 2021 when he came in from Italian side Bologna.
