Newcastle could replace Eddie Howe with 59-year-old Premier League winner who’s got ties to PIF

Speculation over Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle United continues to swirl, and now another possible replacement has emerged.

It was recently reported in Germany that the Magpies are interested in former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, although that rumour was shut down by the British media.

Now another manager appears to be on Newcastle United’s radar, as PIF weigh up what to do at the end of the season.

Newcastle could look at Roberto Mancini

According to HITC, Roberto Mancini could be in the mix to replace Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager if PIF decide to make a change at St James’ Park.

They state the former Manchester City manager is one man who is being considered, although the current plan is to give Howe until the end of the season to prove his worth.

The report from HITC adds that PIF are concerned by how the Magpies have been performing, and have been doing due diligence over possible replacements should they decide to call time on Howe’s tenure.

Roberto Mancini has won a lot of trophies as a manager

Links with Mancini are interesting, as he already has ties to PIF. He is currently the manager of the Saudi Arabia national team, having replaced Herve Renard as their permanent head coach last year. The Italian signed a four-year deal, with his contract running until 2027.

Mancini would be a marquee arrival at St James’ Park, and would be seen as someone who can take the club to the next level. He did exactly that at Man City, guiding them to their first Premier League title after the Abu Dhabi takeover and an FA Cup.

The 59-year-old has also won a European Championship with Italy, three Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia triumphs and a Turkish Cup.

PIF eventually want Newcastle to be winning trophies, and Mancini certainly has the pedigree to do just that.

Hopefully Newcastle stick with Eddie Howe

But the hope will be that Howe can get to that level. It has been reported that his job is safe at St James’ Park, and so it should be.

This season has turned into a disappointment, but that is largely down to reasons outside of Howe’s control. Injuries are not an excuse, but they have certainly been a decisive factor in Newcastle struggling so much.

The fans all believe in Howe, and so do the players. Hopefully he is allowed to continue taking us on this journey, as the Newcastle United project heads into its next phase.
