‘I'm lucky....’: Gary O’Neil lists three things that have made him really ‘love’ his time at Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has recently expressed his love for the club and singled out three reasons why he is thriving at Molineux.

Hiring Gary O’Neil as manager could be recorded as one of Wolves’ most impressive pieces of business in their recent history.

Not many would have predicted just the impact that the Englishman would have on the squad as he arrived at Molineux just five days before the 2023/24 Premier League opener.

Despite enduring a slow start with the squad, the former Bournemouth boss has squeezed the best out of his players, who remarkably sit just two points behind the European spots and are in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Gary O’Neil has been one of the managers of the season

In the summer, many would have seen Wolves as potential relegation candidates going into the 2023/24 campaign after losing a host of key names in the transfer window.

The problems hit a peak when Julen Lopetegui walked away from his position just days before the season started, with the former manager’s concerns over the size and quality of his squad aired.

Financial restrictions saw star players leave with no replacements, making O’Neil’s job a difficult one from the moment he was hired however, adversity failed to unnerve the Englishman.

For his work with the shrinking squad and his ability to turn the 2022/23 Premier League’s lowest scorers into European candidates, the Wolves boss should surely be in the conversation when it comes to manager of the season.

What Gary O’Neil has outlined as his favourite things about being Wolves manager

Love between Wolves and O’Neil is not one way, as the boss recently relayed to the media, via Express & Star, outlining the ambition he shares with the club and touching on the financial pressures surrounding Molineux.

“I’m lucky to be here.”

“The club is trying to move forward and so am I. It’s a massive football club, so I don’t think this football club will ever have an issue in trying to match my ambition.”

“There is some financial stuff that we’re all very aware of. We need to do really well in transfer markets and I need to do really well in my coaching to make sure we keep being competitive.”

“I can never see my ambition outgrowing a club the size of Wolverhampton Wanderers.”

O’Neil also touched upon the three key elements that make him love the club and his first season in Wolverhampton.

“We are well aligned and I love it here. I love the staff, the supporters and love what we’ve been able to create so far this season.”

With an FA Cup quarter-final against Coventry City coming up next, O’Neil has the chance to take his squad to Wembley, as well as the rest of the season having the potential to offer European football to Molineux if form can continue.

No matter the outcome of the campaign, the boss is well-loved in the Midlands for his stellar effort to connect with the squad and provide the supporters with a license to dream again.
