Russia has been accused of disrupting the satellite GPS on the UK Defence Secretary’s plane as he flew to Poland on Wednesday.
It’s understood the GPS signal was blocked for around 30 minutes as Grant Shapps’ RAF jet flew close to the edge of Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave between Lithuania and Poland.
The flight lost GPS navigation and internet access on the outbound and return journey.
Shapps was assured by pilots that the safety of the aircraft was never at risk.
It’s believed the electronic interference is directly related to President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and sensitivities around Kaliningrad.
A Government source told GB News: "Ukraine is the most radio-jammed place in the world and now they’re jamming around Kaliningrad."
The incident happened as Shapps visited British troops in Poland as they took part in the biggest Nato exercise since the Cold War.
Shapp's visit came just one week after he was in Kyiv, which he described as a "wake up call".
He said of Putin: "All that needs to happen to resolve this is he needs to drive back east and get out of a democratic country that he decided to invade two years ago.
"And that is the way to bring this whole thing to a conclusion."
In an interview with GB News, the Defence Secretary also urged Donald Trump not to cut aid to Ukraine if he wins the US presidential election.
"Trump wants to back a winner, and I think Ukraine can and ultimately will win this battle," he said.
“If there’s one thing Donald Trump doesn’t want to see it’s other leaders looking at the west and coming to the conclusion that America won’t step up when it comes to it".
