Thriller that hit 91% on Rotten Tomatoes in 2020 becomes No. 2 movie on Netflix

The year 2020 feels like such a distant memory, yet there were so many great movies that year that fans could recall as if they’d seen them just weeks ago. Such films as Soul, Minari, The Invisible Man, Sound Of Metal, and plenty of others made it a cinematic calendar year to remember. However, with it being the year of pandemic lockdowns, there were still lots of movies that passed viewers by whether they liked it or not. One that’s finally being seen by so many more people is Alone, and it’s all thanks to Netflix…

Alone movie from 2020 hits Netflix ‘Top 10’

First released in September 2020, the American psychological thriller Alone was recently added to Netflix and is currently taking pride of place at No. 2 in the streamer’s ‘Top 10 movies‘ list.

It’s beaten out The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the ’90s Mark Wahlberg thriller Fear, which I gave a glowing and nostalgic recommendation not long ago.

Alone stars Jules Willcox (Chicago PD, Servant) as Jessica, a young woman who is left fighting for her life when she’s stalked by a determined and twisted psychopath in the isolated wilderness.

The movie chronicles one of the very worst scenarios that could arise from a case of tailgating turned terror. I found it to be an incredibly effective and pure take on the genre, and so did the critics: It has a soaring 91% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like most great thrillers, it’s leaving viewers both hooked and frustrated. “Alone on Netflix is making me HATE WATCH,” one tweeted, another writing “This Alone movie on Netflix got me upset.”

Praising it, a fan argued it as “a nice little thriller. The girl made me want to scream a few times but that’s what makes a good horror film.”

More thrillers on Netflix to watch after Alone

If you’re feeling tightly wound but still desperate for more chills after Alone then you’re in luck because it’s just one of numerous must-see thrillers to check out on Netflix.

I’d recommend any of the following:

  • The Gift
  • Intrusion
  • The Rental
  • I See You
  • Secret Obsession
  • Unthinkable
  • The Weekend Away
