Report: Manchester United now keen on surprise move for player who really flopped at Leeds in 2023

Manchester United are eyeing up a surprise move for a former Leeds United flop.

Erik ten Hag’s side are reportedly keen on signing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie less than 12 months after a dismal loan spell at Elland Road which contributed to the club’s relegation.

McKennie had arrived at Leeds on loan for the rest of the season in a deal which had included an obligation-to-buy upon survival, but it was simply a move that did not work out.

However, the 25-year-old has managed to resurrect his career back at Juventus having provided seven assists from midfield in Serie A, and he could now be about to return to England.

According to Give Me Sport, Man United have identified him as a potential option this summer and he could be available for just £15 million, around half of what Leeds had agreed to pay.

Man United want McKennie from Juve

McKennie is out of contract in Italy next summer and despite his form, is yet to come to an agreement on a new deal, which could open the door for an exit in the coming months.

In fact, McKennie is actually said to be keen on a return to England in order to try and prove himself again after such a disappointing period at Leeds.

McKennie has confessed himself that he was not fit enough to succeed at Elland Road and believes his performances let the supporters down, given Leeds’ relegation.

Though clearly he is enjoying a much improved season, it has to be said that it would be a real surprise if he was able to earn himself a move to one of England’s top teams.

If Leeds were to get promoted, it would certainly be interesting to see the reception he would get against his former side, should he make the move and come up against them next season.
