Comic Relief starring role for Nyla and Dingley’s Promise nursery

A Newbury nursery that supports children with special educational needs and disabilities will be starring in tonight’s Comic Relief show.

The story of Nyla, who suffers from a rare neurological condition called Sturge Weber Syndrome (SWS), will feature as the first appeal video of the evening.

Nyla’s family said that Dingley’s Promise has helped her thrive and they are keen to raise awareness of the nursery, which receives funding from Comic Relief, and of SWS.

Jodie Whittaker, of Doctor Who and Broadchurch fame, narrates the video.

The family – who share details of Nyla’s SWS journey on their Facebook page – said it was “surreal and amazing”.

In a post they added: “Nylas nursery receives funding from Comic Relief and it’s so important this continues to help other families and ultimately other children thrive like Nyla has, but also this raises such important awareness about Sturge Weber syndrome.

“We have always said our aim is to keep raising awareness and if it helps one family then we would be happy, if it helps more then amazing!

“If you have a spare five minutes please watch, feel free to share and spread the word that our little lioness will be featured on Comic Relief.

“Ultimately knowledge is power and the more people we can get tuning in and talking, the more knowledge and understanding that will be spread..not only for Sturge Weber but the wider community about the need to have more people trained within the education environment to help early intervention with children that have learning difficulties and special needs.

“We can all make a difference.”

The Comic Relief show begins at 7pm and Nyla’s story is the first appeal video to be shown.
