Wes Anderson's new movie to film at Germany's Babelsberg Studio

Star US film director Wes Anderson plans to produce at least part of his next film at Germany's storied Babelsberg Studio in Potsdam, located just outside Berlin.

The title of the film has not been revealed, but Medienboard, a film funding agency for Berlin and the surrounding German state of Brandenburg, named Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera and Bill Murray as stars.

"After filming had to be postponed last year due to strikes in the US, it is a great pleasure for Berlin-Brandenburg that the exceptional director and newly crowned Oscar winner Wes Anderson is filming in the Babelsberg studios," Medienboard's Kirsten Niehuus told dpa on Friday.

Anderson is coming off his first Oscar win for his short Netflix film "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar."

Anderson is known for his highly stylized scenes, striking colour palettes and quirky characters in such films as "Rushmore" (1998), "The Royal Tenenbaums" (2001), "Fantastic Mr Fox" (2009) and "Grand Budapest Hotel" (2014).

Babelsberg is among the oldest and largest film studios in the world and has been home to many acclaimed productions over more than a century, including Fritz Lang's iconic "Metropolis."

Anderson has used the studio on previous occasions, including for portions of the production of "Grand Budapest Hotel" and the animated film "Isle of Dogs" (2018).
