'We would be happy': Tottenham 24-year-old's agent says client would love to talk to Napoli

Under Jose Mourinho, Japhet Tanganga came into the Tottenham side and looked like one for the future – but he has been unable to build on that and he currently finds himself on loan at Millwall.

The 24-year-old joined Millwall in January after a spell at Augsburg in Germany, where he failed to play a single game. But at The Den, he is impressing – scoring two goals from defence in nine appearances.

Crucial goals, in wins over Southampton and Birmingham City. His form has been so good that Millwall boss Neil Harris thinks Tottenham will be delighted with Tanganga, but his future remains in doubt.

The England U21 man has a contract at Spurs until the end of the season – meaning he could go on a free. His agent says Ange Postecoglou’s side have an option to extend the contract by a further year.

Indeed, his agent Roberto De Fanti told CalcioNapoli24 that Tanganga‘s future is certainly up in the air and that he almost joined Milan 18 months ago. If Napoli became interested, he would consider it.

“He has a particular contract. Tottenham can exercise an option for another year, otherwise he’ll be free. We should wait for a date to see what happens,” De Fanti said. “How can you not consider Napoli?

“The player was close to Milan a year and a half ago. Napoli is a first rate place on both a national and international level. Should there be any interest we would be happy,” Tanganga’s agent continued.

The chances of Napoli considering a move for Tanganga remains to be seen, though it feels unlikely given he struggled at Augsburg and while his form is back – it is in the Championship at Millwall.

But, he is well-regarded in Italy given his links with Milan and other Serie A sides – which is likely to be down to having an Italian agent. It does remain to be seen where Tanganga ends up come the summer.

Much of that may depend on Tottenham’s move with his contract – and then, how much they would want for Tanganga should they exercise the 12-month option. But Napoli seems a bit unrealistic.
