'The chant is amazing': £40m player says he loves Newcastle fans' song about him

Not all too many of Newcastle United’s summer signings have worked out.

While Lewis Hall is expected to join Newcastle on a permanent basis reasonably soon, the teenager is still honing his craft under Eddie Howe and is not yet deemed to be ready.

Sandro Tonali, meanwhile, will not play again until next season as a result of his ban from football.

Then there’s Harvey Barnes. Such has been the bad luck the club have endured this season, the winger suffered an injury medical staff hadn’t actually seen in football before, denying him of the chance to consistently impress.

Tino Livramento, however, has been a rare exception.

The defender has hit the ground running since his move to St James’ Park, a transfer that could eventually cost the club up to £40m.

Already, that looks something like a bargain and it’s fair to say the defender is enjoying the love of the Toon supporters.

Tino Livramento: Newcastle star loves his chant from the crowd

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Livramento was asked about the chant Newcastle fans use for him, which is the same they sang for cult-hero Tino Asprilla.

“The chant is amazing, every time I hear it, I want to smile,” he said.

“Even when I’m playing in the game, I’ve got to stifle a smile. I love it. Being from London, they’ve taken to me so well. It’s like I’m one of their own.”

Tino Livramento: Another chance to shine for Newcastle star

With Kieran Trippier injured, Livramento is surely almost certain to start against Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

While there aren’t many tougher tests in European football than facing City away, little about what Livramento has done this season would suggest he’s going to be overawed.

Trippier has been a fantastic signing but cannot go on forever and has struggled at times. Luckily, however, Newcastle have landed what looks a long-term heir at right-back.

In season of struggle, Livramento has shone.

The future for both he and the club as a whole is certainly very exciting.
