'The form he's been in': Alan Shearer wowed by 'really sharp' £60m striker Arsenal reportedly want to sign

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and speculation is likely to intensify over the coming months.

For instance, Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that the Gunners have made ‘inroads’ into signing Toney recently and remain favourites to sign him this summer.

The reported Arsenal target hit the ground running this year after returning from suspension. He scored four goals in his first five games back for the Bees.

And even though Brentford’s squad has been depleted in recent weeks and Toney hasn’t had as much service, he has still done well despite feeding off scraps.

Toney’s efforts since his return to action have resulted in him getting a call-up to the England squad for March’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Alan Shearer, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, sung the reported Arsenal target’s praises.

The Premier League legend admitted it wasn’t all that surprising to see him back in the Three Lions fold.

“That does not surprise me,” said Shearer. “With the form he’s been in, he has come back and looked really sharp.

“He has held the ball up well, brought people into the game. So that doesn’t surprise me at all.”

Ivan Toney a perfect fit for Arsenal – opinion

Toney certainly ticks pretty much all the boxes for Arsenal. He’s a Premier League-proven clinical striker who’d offer the Gunners a focal point in attack.

And while he will certainly be pricey, he may not be quite as expensive as previously reported.

According to Sportslens, Toney may well be available for as low as £60million this summer. This is a significant reduction on his purported £100million price tag in January.

In addition, Toney has outlined his desire to play for a top club in his career, and Arsenal can certainly give him title challenges and Champions League football at present.
