Celtic team news, injuries, absences and Predicted XI for St Johnstone match with 2 big changes

Celtic take on St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday in a must-win affair for the Bhoys.

There’s no more room for error in the title race and, having lost to Hearts in their last league match, it’s critical for Brendan Rodgers’ side to pick up all three points.

Doing so would put Celtic back at the top of the table overnight and subsequently put pressure on Rangers, who travel away to Dundee on Sunday.

Celtic have several injury concerns to contend with. It was revealed on Friday that Liam Scales is the latest to sit on the sidelines after picking up a knock, joining Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and Maik Nawrocki.

The good news is that Cameron Carter-Vickers is back in contention for a starting spot, significantly strengthening the Celtic defensive line.

Elsewhere, winger Hyunjun Yang will serve the second half of his two-match suspension following his controversial sending-off at Tynecastle.

Potential Celtic team vs St Johnstone

Joe Hart will continue in goal and all the injury news means it’s a likely backline of Alistair Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Greg Taylor.

The midfield three is shaping up to be the same as the one fielded against Livingston meaning Tomoki Iwata, Matt O’Riley and Paulo Bernardo are in line for starts.

Daniel Kelly and Odin Thiago Holm will be available from the bench to freshen things up.

In attack, Daizen Maeda will retain his place after his hat-trick heroics last weekend and Nicolas Kuhn is a smart bet to start on the right flank after a solid showing.

Up front, it could be time to unleash Kyogo Furuhashi after a confidence-boosting late goal in the Scottish Cup win, giving Adam Idah the opportunity once again to make an impact as a substitute in the second half.

Your predicted XI in full is: Hart, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Welsh, Taylor, Iwata, O’Riley, Bernardo, Kuhn, Maeda, Kyogo.
