Report: Newcastle are considering making a move for 16-goal forward to replace 'unbelievable' star

Newcastle United could be busy this summer.

With this season having been something of a reality check following all the success of last year, a big summer transfer window is being predicted at Newcastle.

Though the extent of their rebuild could be impacted by lingering FFP issues, some previously key players for the club could well depart.

Indeed, Callum Wilson has been tipped for an exit from St James’ Park.

The striker, hailed as “unbelievable” by Eddie Howe, was linked with a shock move to AC Milan and Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window. Clearly, that never came to fruition but the speculation in regard to his long-term Newcastle career continues.

According to the Daily Mail, Wilson is indeed expected to leave this summer and the club have already considered a potential replacement.

Newcastle transfer news: Rafa Mujica latest

They claim Spanish forward Rafa Mujica has been scouted by Newcastle.

The 25-year-old, who started his career at Barcelona before a brief spell at Leeds, is currently with Portuguese side Arouca.

Mujica has scored 16 Liga Nos goals this season in just 24 starts and is also able to operate on the wing.

Viewed as a potentially cheaper option, he’s a target the club are believed to be considering.

Callum Wilson: Time for Newcastle to move on

Wilson has been an excellent servant to Newcastle since a £20m move from Bournemouth, with only Alan Shearer and Peter Beardsley having scored more Premier League goals for the club.

Still, his seemingly constant injury problems have shown little sign of clearing up and at 32, surely won’t be getting any better from here.

Thought to be attracting interest from elsewhere, moving on an ageing player seems wise.

Whether it’s Mujica or not as a replacement, the forward line could certainly do with some rejuvenation.
