Journalist: Striker with 142 goals at just 24 on West Ham's radar as Antonio heir

West Ham will be looking to sign a striker in the summer and hotshot Jonathan David is firmly on the radar, it’s been claimed.

Michail Antonio rolled back the years in West Ham’s record 5-0 European win over Freiburg.

It showed he still has something to offer West Ham this season.

Always a man for the big occasion during his his time with the Hammers, Antonio did not disappoint.

That’s despite enduring an injury-hit and pretty barren campaign to this point.

David Moyes opted not to sign a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca after selling him in the summer.

West Ham striker search continues this summer

At times this season that has looked a very questionable decision.

Especially when Antonio was ruled out for three months with injury.

The Jamaican turns 34 at the end of the month.

He’s in the twilight of his Hammers career.

And West Ham have been linked with a host of strikers as Tim Steidten looks to address the lack of depth up front in the next window.

West Ham want 24-year-old with 142 goals for club and country

Now striker Jonathan David is on West Ham’s radar as their Antonio heir this summer.

That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Lille and Canada ace David has a staggering 142 goals for club and country at the tender age of 24.

That’s more than Antonio – who is 10 years his senior with double the appearances.

West Ham have been linked with David on numerous occasions including ahead of the January window.

David has 21 goals in 36 games for Lille this season.

And journalist Bailey says the Hammers ‘have checked on David’ ahead of the summer window.

The striker so good they named him twice

It is reported that there is now ‘every chance’ David will move to the Premier League this summer.

The problem for West Ham and Steidten is that a host of their Prem rivals are also interested including Arsenal and Spurs.

Even if Antonio and Danny Ings don’t move on this summer, the Hammers must still sign a new first choice forward.

Jarrod Bowen looks much more dangerous in his usual wide right position. And David can play across the entire front line.

That means he can interchange with the likes of Bowen and Mohammed Kudus. But his link play as a central striker is what sets him apart.
