'Looks a shadow of himself': Kris Boyd shares big concerns about £8m Rangers target

Rangers legend Kris Boyd has expressed his concerns about Bojan Miovski’s alarming dip in form amid speculation that the £8 million-rated Aberdeen striker could be a target for the Scottish Premiership challengers this summer.

It is only just over a month since Neil Warnock – during his flying visit to Scotland – suggested that Bojan Miovski was capable of moving south of the border and setting the English Premier League alight.

But with all due respect to the likes of Dundee, St Mirren and St Johnstone, if the Montenegro international cannot find the target against them, then it’s hard to imagine him striking fear into the hearts of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Miovski has gone from red hot at the start of the ill-fated Warnock era to sub-zero, going seven games without a goal in all competitions.

On current form, and amid reports suggesting that the Dons will be looking for a Premiership-record fee of £8 million, Miovski does not quite feel like the Cyriel Dessers upgrade he was tipped as only a few weeks ago (The Sun).

Rangers like Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski

“Warnock was right when he said Aberdeen have no leaders, apart from Graeme Shinnie,” Boyd writes in his Scottish Sun column.

“Bojan Miovski has gone seven games without a goal, and looks a shadow of himself. It’s OK having the chest puffed out when all is going well, but he needs to step up for his team in this crucial moment.”

Miovski does still have 22 goals this season, of course. And form – as they say – is temporary. But with tenth place Aberdeen seemingly sleepwalking towards the Championship, now is certainly the time for the former MTV Budapest frontman to prove that his class remains permanent.

“We played a really good game today. A really dominant game,” Rangers boss Philippe Clement said after Miovski bullied Conor Goldson on route to a fine individual goal in February, Todd Cantwell coming to the Ibrox giants’ rescue late on.

“But these are the kind of games you have in a season when the circumstances are not on your side. You totally dominate the first-half, you have the chances to score more than one.

“And then you have this one moment, and it is the quality of Miovski. He doesn’t need much to score goals.”

Could Dons struggles cost Miovski a move?

Singled out for all the wrong reasons by Warnock following a 2-0 reverse to Kilmarnock later that month, Boyd is not wrong when he says that a man who appeared to have confidence flowing from every pore not so long ago ‘looks a shadow of himself’.
