'A revelation': Jamie Redknapp blown away by £15m Tottenham player who's now 'irreplaceable' for Postecoglou

Tottenham are playing against Fulham this evening as they look to continue their charge towards the top four places in the Premier League.

Spurs hammered Aston Villa last weekend to put themselves in prime position to finish in the Champions League places. The game at Fulham tonight is a big chance, with Villa not playing until tomorrow.

For Tottenham, key to their success has been how well some of their players have meshed under the new manager.

One of those players, £15m signing Pape Matar Sarr, has risen from nowhere to become a key figure for Postecoglou’s side. Sarr has made 24 appearances this term and been key as injuries to the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur have hit.

And speaking about Sarr on Sky Sports before kick-off tonight, former Spurs man Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for the Senegal star.

Pape Matar Sarr lauded for his Tottenham form

Speaking about Sarr, and as midfielder himself back in the day, Redknapp admitted to being super-impressed with the Tottenham ace.

“I must say he’s been a revelation but I didn’t see it. Last year there were times under Antonio Conte where we were getting sub, sub, sub which can always be a little bit humiliating and you don’t know how a player will react off of that. But there was a lot of talk in the summer about him having a good pre-season and I love hearing that about a player, that they’re fit, strong, ready to embrace the challenge.

“When I looked at that midfield at the start once everyone’s fit I thought it will be Bissouma, Maddison and Bentancur because I’m a big fan of Bentancur. But he [Sarr] has become irreplaceable with his performances. The cross last week was one of the best you’ve seen in years. He’s full of confidence and it’s showing,” Redknapp said.

Making his mark

Redknapp’s point here on Sarr is a great one. There won’t be many Tottenham fans that expected him to be quite so good this season and he’s been like a bonus signing in a way.

It just shows that under Antonio Conte, things were just not right at Spurs. The fact Sarr is flourishing under Postecoglou, says it all.

For Sarr now, it’s all about consistency and keeping in the manager’s plans. Spurs have a talented squad and are likely to want to strengthen again in the summer.

Sarr, then, will be keen to ensure he keeps performing and makes it impossible for Ange to drop him.
