Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican, recently made headlines with a confrontational interview with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos. She then went on a warpath against him, suggesting he "rape shamed" the lawmaker.
Mace has doubled down with that assertion on Saturday. While Stephanopoulos merely pressed her on her seemingly unconditional support for a former president who has been found liable for sexual assault by a jury, Mace has said the interviewer targeted her as a survivor of rape.
"Last night I received a serious threat and the individual is now in custody. Our family wants to thank law enforcement for acting quickly," Mace wrote. "Since the ABC News interview where George Stephanopolous [sic] rape shamed me - we’ve received a barrage of threatening messages and calls from all around the country - all week. Neither political violence nor the threat of it is ever going to be tolerated."

The GOP lawmaker continued:
"This individual threatened to rape me, then kill me, and murder members of my family. God bless our law enforcement who keep us all safe. And thank you for acting swiftly."
In a separate post Saturday, Mace said Stephanopoulos "will never know the damage he and [ABC] have done to put me and the women in my family in harms way… all to score cheap political points on a rape survivor."
Mace included a video in which she claims it has been a "tough week" since the interview.
"I've received exponentially more threats this week than we ever have... based on that interview," the lawmaker said. "Thank you to our police and law enforcement who have... apprehended this individual."
"Political violence or threats of violence, none of that is OK," she said.
