'Immense talent': Martin Keown says Chelsea have a 21-year-old youngster who is so 'classy'

Martin Keown has branded Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer as an ‘immense talent’ ahead of their FA Cup game against Leicester City.

The Blues have made a lot of mistakes over the last two years – both on and off the pitch. Their recruitment has been shocking, but Palmer has been a rare exception. He has been incredible for Chelsea this season.

Martin Keown says Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is an ‘immense talent’

Chelsea have had another terrible season, haven’t they?

The Blues aren’t even in the top half of the Premier League table, having won just 11 of their first 27 games. They also ended up losing the Carabao Cup final against a Liverpool side who were nowhere near full strength.

There aren’t a lot of positives Chelsea fans can take out of this season so far, apart from the performances of summer signing Cole Palmer.

The Englishman, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City last summer for an initial £40 million fee (Sky Sports), has been their best player. Some even say he has been a bargain signing.

Palmer has scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists for Chelsea in 36 appearances. That is an incredible return for a 21-year-old who had started just three times in the Premier League in his entire career before last summer.

Martin Keown, who faced a number of world-class attackers during his time, appears to be a big fan of Palmer. He has branded him as an ‘immense talent’.

The Arsenal legend wrote in the Daily Mail: “Made in Manchester, Cole Palmer could easily have stayed at home with the best team in the world, a club who can practically guarantee their players a glut of trophies.

“Instead, he had the confidence to score in the Community Shield and Super Cup at the start of this season and then tell City: let me leave because I deserve to be playing week in, week out. Watching him for Chelsea, you can see why he insisted he was ready.

“This 21-year-old is an immense talent. He is cool, classy and measured, with a little maverick in him, and determined to prove why he deserves to represent England at Euro 2024.”

Palmer is Chelsea’s best player

On paper, Chelsea have a very talented squad and you would think they’d be much higher up the table than they are at the moment.

When you watch them play, it is a disaster more often than not, but the one player who has stood out almost every time we see him is Cole Palmer.

What an incredible signing he is proving to be – he’s the only one who looks worth his transfer fee.

Chelsea would probably be 15th right now if Palmer hadn’t delivered. He has been such an important player for them and there’s no doubt that he is a level above everyone else at the club.

The Blues take on Leicester City in the FA Cup tomorrow, and it will be a tricky game. However, if Palmer steps up like he has done all season, they should be able to get the job done.
