Germany's men's handball players have secured their ticket to the Paris Olympic Games.

Alfred Gislason's team won the decisive game against Austria 34-31 and finished the qualifying tournament in Hanover in second place behind Croatia.

In front of 10,099 spectators, Julian Köster and Renars Uscins were the best scorers with eight goals each for Germany, who last won an Olympic medal in 2016 with bronze.

Gislason's future has also been clarified thanks to the qualification for the July and August Games. The 64-year-old Icelander will continue to coach the German team until the 2027 home World Championship.

In the event of failure, Gislason's contract would not have been extended.
