Report: Man City ready to discuss new deal for 'phenomenal' £120k-a-week star and nearly double his wages

Manchester City are reportedly keen to open talks with Ederson soon about a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian is currently on the sidelines, after picking up an injury in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend.

Ederson is expected to be out for a few weeks, with Stefan Ortega to deputies in the meantime.

Ederson has been at City now since the summer of 2017, when he signed for a reported £35 million from Benfica.

He has been integral to the way City have played under Pep Guardiola, and the club are now looking to offer him a longer contract with a considerable wage increase…

It has been reported this weekend by the Daily Star that City are now looking to open talks with Ederson about a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium.

At the moment, he is contracted with the club until the summer of 2026.

The Daily Star say that Ederson is currently earning around £120,000 per week at City. Should he agree to an extension, then it is likely that wage will jump to around £200,000 per week, bringing him closer to the top earners at the club.

Currently, the only players at the club earning £200,000 per week or more are Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, John Stones, Josko Gvardiol, Rodri and Bernardo Silva (via Spotrac).

City are also hopeful of extending Ortega’s contract.

It was recently reported though that the German stopper is stalling, because he knows there could be opportunities for him this summer to leave and become a number one elsewhere.

Ederson deserves new contract

Hopefully City can tie Ederson down to a longer contract, and you would imagine it will happen at some point this year.

The ‘phenomenal’ Brazilian has been the undisputed number one since the came to the club, and has been integral to the way City play under Guardiola.

He has been an incredibly important signing and a top servant to the club. He should certainly be in and around the top earners at this point, after all that he has done.

Given his current deal runs until 2026, it would be no surprise if City took their time with any negotiations with Ederson.
