'I've watched enough': Paul Merson delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest survival chances

Paul Merson has delivered his verdict on whether he thinks Nottingham Forest will be relegated this season. The Sky Sports pundit was speaking after watching the Reds against Luton yesterday.

Forest were forced to settle for a draw at Kenilworth Road. Chris Wood gave the Reds the lead going into half-time but a late strike from Luke Berry earned the hosts a share of the spoils.

After the game, Merson delivered his verdict on whether or not Forest would have enough to survive this season. We’ve taken a look at what the pundit actually said.

What Paul Merson said about Nottingham Forest survival chances

Well, it would appear as though Merson quite enjoyed watching Forest yesterday. He was very complimentary throughout the contest and felt the Reds should have won.

In truth, he’s got a point, with Forest wasting a host of chances to be out of sight against their struggling opponents. It wasn’t to be though and Forest should find out tomorrow how many points they will be deducted.

Speaking on Sky Sports News yesterday, Merson said: “I’ve watched enough today to think Forest won’t go down. I think they’ll beat Palace, I don’t know about Fulham, they’re one of them teams – a bag of Revels – you don’t know what you’re going to get but I think they beat Palace at home.

“I don’t see them going down. Forest were the better team today. I thought they were very comfortable and they’d be disappointed they didn’t hold on here.”

Forest need action on the pitch

Merson’s words are nice but this season should have been far more comfortable than it has been. Forget the poor refereeing decisions but if Forest could defend set pieces, relegation wouldn’t even be in the equation.

As a result, the Reds now face an anxious wait to discover the outcome of their PSR charges and Forest will be hoping for some leniency.

Although the club are currently three points clear of the drop zone, they could find themselves beneath the dotted line when the announcement comes tomorrow.

Merson made some good points about Forest on yesterday’s Soccer Saturday. However, it’s time for the talking to stop and the Reds to start showing a bit of desire out on the pitch.
