£19m ex-Rangers star books date at National stadium as manager lives up to promise

Former Rangers winger Amad Diallo scored an extra-time winner for Manchester United to defeat arch-rivals Liverpool – before seeing red!

The young Ivorian winger is the toast of Old Trafford after his late extra time winner sent the Red Devils to Wembley in what might be Jurgen Klopp’s final FA Cup campaign ever.

In what was only Diallo’s fourth appearance of the season, the Ivorian scored the eventual winner in the tie to send Manchester United to the FA Cup semi-finals at the expense of Liverpool.

Amad Diallo scores winner v Liverpool

In a pulsating encounter, Manchester United eventually ran out 4-3 winners over Liverpool with Scott McTominay giving the team an early 10th minute lead.

Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah flipped the script just before half-time, with United relying on a late Anthony leveller to haul the game to extra time.

Harvey Elliot got Liverpool in front in the first half of the extra period before Marcus Rashford equalised in the second, teeing it up for Amad Diallo to steal the show.

As the United attack broke at pace from a Liverpool corner, Amad Diallo was handed the ball from Alejandro Garnacho and squeezed it into the bottom corner.

Remarkably, after taking his t shirt off in celebration, the winger was sent off for a second yellow card but it’ll only add an extra dimension to this legendary winner against Liverpool.

Ex-Rangers winger a part of Manchester United’s plans

Rangers of course took Amad Diallo on loan from Manchester United in the second half of the 21/22 season and the winger struggled to make any real impact.

Playing a stronger role in the squad towards the end of his tenure at Rangers, the £19m winger was taking some of his first step’s into British men’s football at Ibrox.

Having spent a season out on loan at Sunderland last season, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag promised minutes to the 21-year-old earlier in the season.

With chances hard to come by, the Dutch coach has stuck true to his promise here with Amad Diallo the hero for Manchester United who progress at the expense of Liverpool.

One Rangers-linked striker from the summer also had a huge role to play in another FA Cup semi this weekend.
