'I have to mention': Graeme Souness says one Liverpool player Klopp took off 'looked a mile off' today

Graeme Souness has suggested that one Liverpool player taken off against Manchester United on Sunday was miles off it, as the Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

Liverpool must be wondering how exactly they are not the ones planning for a trip to Wembley. A deflected Harvey Elliott strike put Jurgen Klopp’s men 3-2 in front in extra-time. But there was to be a twist in the tale.

Mohamed Salah started as he continues to make his way back from injury. And the Egyptian did score just before half-time to put the Reds in front.

Salah did find the back of the net and provide three assists in the Europa League in midweek. But it seems he has not managed to impress Graeme Souness since making his return to the Reds’ side.

Speaking on ITV (broadcast on 17/3; 18:26) after their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, Souness suggested that he wanted to see a lot more from the 31-year-old at Old Trafford.

“Decision-making at a vital time has cost Liverpool dearly. Decision-making throughout. I have to mention Salah as well. What was wrong with Salah today? I know he’s come back off a long injury. He didn’t look a player last weekend against City. And today he looked a mile off it as well,” he said.

Reds will be desperate to make amends

It was one of the special performances which seem to come along every so often for Erik ten Hag’s side. And on another day, Liverpool could have put the game to bed.

Ultimately, the Premier League title is the priority for Klopp’s men. So that should allow the Reds to put this defeat behind them a little quicker.

Certainly, Salah will be desperate to make amends after the international break, particularly with the title seemingly set to be decided by the barest of margins.
