'You deserve a lot'... David de Gea sends message to Man Utd star after win v Liverpool

Manchester United winger Antony enjoyed the best moment of his dismal 2023/24 with a goal against Liverpool.

Prior to this weekend, Antony had only scored one goal for Manchester United. And with this coming against League Two side Newport County, it was not going to win anybody over.

Yet, Antony has proved capable of delivering in big games during his first season at Old Trafford, netting a memorable winner against Barcelona.

Nobody can dispute that his contribution against Liverpool mattered. Antony’s swift turn inside a crowded penalty box saw him score the rarest of goals, finished with his right foot.

Antony saves United’s season

Manchester United had been heading to a 2-1 loss before Antony’s intervention. On as a substitute, not many watching fancied his chance of turning the game around.

Antony was only too happy to prove the doubters wrong, stepping up to net an all important equaliser to force extra-time.

United went on to win the game 4-3, with fellow substitute Amad scoring a sensational career-changing winner.

The win booked a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Manchester United’s only remaining chance to win silverware in 2023/24.

Antony sends a message

Antony wrote a message on Instagram following Manchester United’s victory, celebrating his big moment and the team’s win.

He posted: “What an unforgettable day! Until the last minute… That’s what it means to be a United!!

“Proud to help and I will never stop fighting and working hard! Let’s go, family!”

Antony’s sprit has never been in question, although his quality has. He had vowed to return in 2024 as a different player, and while it has taken until mid-March, he has finally produced a big moment to back that up.

Antony’s big moment was celebrated by Manchester United players past and present, who responded to his message.

Harry Maguire came off the bench as part of a double substitution along with Antony, and he replied: “What a performance.”

Former teammate David de Gea also showed his fondness for Antony, responding: “You deserve a lot brother.”
