'My favourite player'... Willy Kambwala hails Manchester United hero with dressing room picture

Amad began Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final as a substitute, before taking centre-stage.

The way Amad’s season was going, the Ivorian needed a major stroke of luck to get some game time.

He was overlooked for a start last month for Omari Forson, a disappointing snub for the former Atalanta man.

Forson was on the bench against Liverpool, but this time Amad was chosen, sent on as the fourth substitute, in the 85th minute

And that’s when the luck really turned in Amad’s favour. What would have been a five minute cameo was extended into a 35-minute showing, with the game going to extra-time.

Amad scores winner

Amad decided the game with a dramatic goal in the 120th minute of the game, effectively the last kick.

He and Alejandro Garnacho set off on a devastating counter-attack, which he began by winning the ball back on the edge of his own box.

Amad ended up getting sent off for taking his shirt off, having picked up an earlier booking for not retreating far enough at a free-kick.

It was a silly pair of bookings, but at the same time, in the context of his winner, who cares?

He worked incredibly hard during his cameo, desperate to win the ball back for his team at every opportunity, fully earning the opportunity to score his late winner.

Amad admired by his United teammates

Amad is a player who supporters have had high hopes for ever since his £19 million arrival at the club.

He is admired particularly by his young teammates, who have spent time training with him and playing academy football together, where he has shown them how good he is, even if Manchester United fans have not seen it enough yet.

Young defender Willy Kambwala showed his admiration for Amad, sharing a snap of him in the Old Trafford dressing toom at full-time, posing playfully with his Emirates man of the match award.

He wrote: “My favourite player”, showing his respect and friendship for Amad.

United’s young core

Willy Kambwala is one of the Manchester United players to make his breakthrough this season, making six appearances in total.

He is part of a young core of stars giving the team hope, with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, plus 21-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund.

If Amad can find a way to maximise his talent, and contribute regularly, then United might just have struck gold.

There are more bright talents coming through the ranks too, demonstrated by youngster Bendito Mantato scoring four goals for the under-18s at the weekend.

If this group of youngsters in the first team at present can stay together and continue to develop, then the future looks very bright.
