£45m Arsenal player will not go on international duty, he wants to stay with the Gunners - journalist

Thomas Partey is set to remain at Arsenal during the international break after his recent return from injury.

Mikel Arteta received a huge boost just a couple of weeks ago as Thomas Partey made his long-awaited comeback.

The 30-year-old had featured just four times in the Premier League this season before coming off the bench at Sheffield United earlier this month.

After spending the majority of the campaign on the sidelines, Partey has racked up a couple of appearances in the league this month.

It’s no secret that the midfielder has struggled with persistent injuries during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

But according to Charles Watts, Partey has asked to remain at Arsenal during the international break as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

When available Partey is usually a regular for Ghana but the £45 million midfielder will remain in north London over the next couple of weeks.

“Thomas Partey won’t be linking up with Ghana over the international break,” Watts wrote on X.

“He asked to be excused from the squad so he can work on regaining full fitness after his recent return from injury. He will remain with Arsenal.”

While Partey’s importance to this current Arsenal side has somewhat lessened since Declan Rice’s arrival, this will be welcome news for Gunners supporters.

The midfielder is still an excellent player on his day and Arteta will need added depth ahead of the business end of the campaign.

Should Partey return to full fitness over the next couple of weeks, it would be a considerable boost for the Spaniard.

Of course, Arsenal face a crunch clash against Manchester City after the international break.

Partey put in a solid display against the champions back in August when Arteta’s men picked up a win in the Community Shield.
