Unai Emery gives unusual 6-word injury update on £70k-a-week Aston Villa ace who missed West Ham draw

Aston Villa have been provided with an unusual update regarding the fitness of Jacob Ramsey, as Unai Emery commented on the Englishman’s injury status following Sunday’s draw against West Ham.

Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, where Unai Emery saw his side tested with a depleted squad.

The Villans were without captain John McGinn who served the first game of his three-match suspension, causing problems in midfield when it came to attempting to build play.

Still, the Midlands club left the capital with a point to show for their hard work, narrowly extending their lead in the race for the top four following Tottenham’s defeat to Fulham.

Speaking after the game, Emery touched upon a host of topics with perhaps the most concerning subject being the status of Jacob Ramsey.

Unai Emery provided a strange update on the fitness of Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey was absent against West Ham as he continues to battle for fitness after missing the previous four fixtures.

The Englishman was withdrawn in the first half of Villa’s narrow win over Luton Town and hasn’t featured since, despite the understanding that the midfielder could have been in contention to soon make the squad.

Speaking last week, Emery shared his hopeful verdict on Ramsey’s stance ahead of last Thursday’s duel with Ajax.

“He’s still not available, but hopefully not for a long time. We are going to wait every day to see how he is feeling.”

While the statements from last week provided an optimistic feeling around the 22-year-old, Emery provided a far less encouraging update yesterday.

Speaking to BirminghamWorld, the manager simply said:

“I don’t know, I don’t know.”

Jacob Ramsey has struggled this season

After the highs that Ramsey hit last term, becoming an integral member of Emery’s squad and contributing to 13 goals in the Premier League, this season has been a bit of a stop-start nightmare for the academy graduate.

Last campaign, the Englishman recorded 31 starts from a total of 35 appearances in the league for his boyhood club, with his numbers contrasting in the 2023/24 calendar where he has just eight starts from 16 appearances.

The Bodymoor Heath product suffered a setback before the season started after breaking his foot whilst on international duty in the summer, delaying when his domestic duties could begin.

It’s worrying that Emery was unable to speak more openly about the actual status of the £70k-a-week jewel, who looks to be in a position far from being match-fit if the manager’s brief update is anything to go by.
