The remarkable XI Man Utd played as Amad scored winner v Liverpool was an Erik ten Hag masterclass

Manchester United ended up overpowering Liverpool with a remarkable fightback where everything was thrown at Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Midway through the second half against Liverpool, Manchester United were on the ropes. Klopp’s side were dominating possession, and it looked like it might only be a matter of time before they extended their led.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag then made a decision. He took the perspective, ‘if you are going to go down, go down swinging’.

Antony, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen and Amad were thrown into the mix. And by the time Mason Mount was brought on in the 105th minute, the game was taking on a chaotic feel.

Manchester United attacked Liverpool

After Liverpool had taken a 3-2 extra-time lead through a deflected Harvey Elliott strike, Manchester United had to go for it.

We were rewarded with an equaliser from Marcus Rashford and a winner from Amad in the 120th minute, sparking wild celebrations.

United were able to get back in the game with a remarkable changed around XI, which looked to totally confuse Liverpool in the proces.

By the time Amad scored his winner, United’s players were all over the place, many out of their natural positions.

Ten Hag takes risks and wins it

Bruno Fernandes found himself converted into a temporary centre-back role. The captain dropped back into this unusual role with Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane taken off.

Harry Maguire was playing alongside him, but the England international also had a pretty free role to bomb forward and attack.

That’s why we have placed him just behind the striker in this XI to reflect his positioning. He had seven touches inside the Liverpool box – while Rasmus Hojlund managed only two during his time on the pitch.

Antony meanwhile ended the game at left-back. It is a role fans have wondered if he is able to play amid the injury crisis at the position. As a temporary fix, it worked.

Amad and Alejandro Garnacho were given license to lead United’s attack with Marcus Rashford, and the duo combined for the winner, and a famous 4-3 victory.

In particular, Amad deserves praise. He was everywhere, tracking back to win possession, desperate to make the most of his rare opportunity.

United threw absolutely everything at Liverpool. Maguire driving forward to attack symbolised this. It was a performance for the whole team and manager to be proud of. No wonder Liverpool are still trying to work out what hit them.
