Mason Mount shows support for Man Utd man who silenced doubters by proving Ten Hag 100% right vs Liverpool - opinion

Manchester United are through to the FA Cup semi-final – after a simply glorious 4-3 victory against Liverpool.

It was truly a special night to be a Manchester United fan. Erik ten Hag‘s side battled insanely hard for 120 minutes and were rewarded with a ticket to Wembley following Amad Diallo‘s dramatic late winner.

There were so many good performances. Diallo worked his socks off, Kobbie Mainoo excelled and Alejandro Garnacho proved again he’s a star in the making.

But whilst these other players will take the plaudits, the captain Bruno Fernandes deserves a lot of credit for his selfless performance.

Selfless Bruno Fernandes showed why he is Manchester United’s captain

Fernandes played all 120 minutes and must’ve had an iron lung. He simply never stopped.

He was the unsung hero in the FA Cup clash, doing the dirty work that allowed other Manchester United stars to thrive at Old Trafford.

The captain showed just how unselfish he was in extra time. He was faced with the task of playing centre-back, where he produced an absolute masterclass.

It’s games, and performances like this, which show why Ten Hag made the big call to make him Manchester United’s captain. He’s been proven 100% right and silenced any doubters who still question the decision.

There aren’t many players who would gladly accept the role Bruno picked up, but he did it with maximum effort and no fuss. A true Red Devils captain.

Mason Mount and Juan Mata send Bruno Fernandes a message

Fernandes took to Instagram after the game and posted the following message: ‘What a special afternoon for all of us.’

Teammate Mason Mount and former Red Devil Juan Mata replied to this, with Mount showing support for his captain with the message: ‘Capi!!!’

Bruno Fernandes reflects at full-time

The captain spoke with ITV full-time about the famous victory and suggests United now want to go the full way in the competition. He says:

“We have a young squad, they need time and when they have the chance to play they have to show they have the quality to play for Manchester United. We always have belief, the problem is we have not been consistent with our performances.

“We give 100% we always give everything but at this club we always have to have high standards. It’s a part of the game to be criticised, that’s why you play for Manchester United. This season has not been at the level we want but we want to improve. We have always said our goal was to get into the top four and try to win the FA Cup, we will do all we can for those goals. The FA Cup is a big trophy for this club.”

Manchester United face Coventry City in the semis. Let’s get the win at Wembley.
